AOR now enrolling for the Fall semester of 2011!
AOR is now accepting enrollment for the Fall 2011semester. Classes begin August 27th. After-school program classes begin September 12th. This semester, most classes will be similar to the 2010 classes, with a few exceptions: Norwood Park Elementary, Brownell Elementary, and NFC K-5 after school will be moved to 1-hour classes. This decision has come at the request and suggestion of parents, teachers, and CLC staff. Note: The Saturday Juniors class will remain 2 hours long.
AOR has updated rates to $65/month for core classes, $17/lesson, $85/Blues, and $45/for K-5 after-school classes.
Scholarships/Multiple Class Discounts:
Any family receiving a scholarship prior to August 2011 must complete a new application as they have changed. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE SCHOLARSHIP FORM. Scholarships may be available to families that qualify and are based on a sliding fee scale and the program's ability to fund requests.
Mulitple class discounts are also available for famliies enrolling in more than one class, including lessons. After the first class at full price, each additional class or lesson for all family members will receive a 20% discount. Multiple class discounts cannot be combined with scholarships.
Contact Steph@nfclincoln.org or 402-471-9023 for billing or discount questions.
Hearing Protection:
There will be a one time $5 payment on your first bill of the session for hearing protection. Students are welcome to bring their own hearing protection if they prefer, but the AOR will now provide this for all students at each class. REMINDER: For their safety, all students are required to wear hearing protection at each class.
New Payment Agreements:
AOR has an updated payment agreement. Please make sure you review it when registering.
AOR Student Committee:
AOR will be creating a student committee this school year! Details will come later, but these students will be acting representatives.
Big thanks to Michael Atkins!
Lincoln resident Michael Atkins recently donated a large amount of equipment to AOR. This included some awesome vintage amps as well as other goodies! AOR is very thankful to Michael for the equipment and supporting AOR.
AOR receives Hot Topic Foundation Grant!
Northeast Family Center and the Academy of Rock program would like to give a big thanks to the Hot Topic Foundation for a grant of $25,000! Because of the support of the Foundation, AOR will be able to provide more in-depth services to Lincoln's youth and reach a wider audience. With the grant, AOR will be providing a recording studio at NFC, video equipment, and graphic arts software and supplies. Click here to learn more about the Foundation.
The Academy of Rock.
It’s all about bringing kids together who want to learn how to rock. That’s really the core of what we do. A lot of people ask, “Is it like the movie? The one with Jack Black?” The answer is: sort of.
There’s a huge need in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the surrounding areas to reach youth and teens and we feel the best way is to meet them half way with one of the things they like best. Rock. All over the place, kids are sitting at home trying to figure out how to play guitar, driving teachers mad with homemade pencil beats on their desks or walking around with iPods while air guitaring monster solos. They get together to play Rock Band and Guitar Hero. We are the real thing. We teach them how to REALLY do it. With the help of awesome local professional musicians who are in bands or have been in bands, we get kids of all experience levels together and teach them how to play the music they love so much. Then we get them up on stage and let them go. We end up with an experience that changes lives. AOR builds self esteem and confidence, triggers creativity, and taps into a part of each kid that is just screaming to get out.
